Returning to Work

Today was the day I have been dreading since Bella was born, so much so I was able to push back my return date from Jan 25 to Feb 3, so I could get a bit more time with my little girl.

Parts of the day went as expected, for example handing Bella off was a tearful issue. No matter how strong I was all morning as I got her and I ready, that hand off moment was just too much! Yes, it was easier mentally knowing she was going to my my mom, but it didn't make my aching heart any better. I cried in the car, as I headed to Starbucks for some much needed caffeine, and even a special treat--raspberry muffin--to help turn my mood in the right direction.

On arrival to work, it all went a better than planned. My sub had planned the day for me, knowing how hard this first day back would be, and I was greeted with tons of warm wishes and welcomes from my fellow coworkers. The day started out wonderfully, as we began circle time in a collaboration classroom, and the teacher had each student welcome me back with sharing why they thought I was an important part of the classroom--what a great confidence builder this was! This continued throughout the day as notes, signs, and posters were delivered to my classroom to help push me along through the day as I awaited that moment when the bell rang and I could rush out to see her.

In the end, it wasn't easy, but it turned out so much better than I could imagine. I was reminded why I do the things I do, and how blessed we are to have such a great support system.

Glad the day went as well as could be expected! pretty soon it will be normal routine, and you'll cherish the time you have with bella and make it even more meaningful. Oh and love the leg warmers! They sell those at a little boutique in Bham, but how luck you are to have a seamstress!

They are so easy to make. My mom just cuts the feet off of socks then hems the bottom.
