A Special Grocery Trip on a Day of Remembrance

Bella and I made an early morning trip to the grocery recently and we took full advantage of the empty aisles and minimal people.  So for the very first time, Bella rode in the cart with a car--the cart she often admires and comments on, but this mommy has never actually allowed her child to do.  I figured it would be a fun change to our regular trip.

On this same day, our nation remembered the tragedy that affected so many 10 years ago, on 9-11.  As Bella and I strolled the aisles, Bella "driving" of course, an announcement was made that "employees and customers in the store were invited to participate in a moment of silence as we remember the tragedy that occurred 10 years ago today."  Surprised and moved, is no better way to describe how I felt when this announcement was made.  Immediately I kneeled down beside Bella, and told her Mommy was going to pray and she had to be very quiet so others in the story could pray too. Bella looked at me very seriously, and placed her hands together, as she always does for a good prayer, and listened as quiet as could be.  As we finished our prayer and said our "Amens," I stood up and we continued our grocery shopping.

What a simple act it was taking that moment to remember and pray for all who died on that day and others  who served to save so many too.  I know Bella didn't get the magnitude of that day for our country, and it may be years if she ever really does.  But that's ok.  Because as her mommy, I pray that I am moved to get down on bended knee more often, so that she see's how important it is we humble ourselves before the Lord, even in the most public of places--because in the end, that reason for prayer, and commitment to the Lord, is the most important.

I continue to lift up those families affected by 9-11.  I remember the worry I experienced knowing one of my brothers was a pilot for American Airlines, and unsure of his whereabouts for a few hours.  But I was fortunate.  My brother was safe and sound, piloting another flight. I will never forget where I was that day when I learned the towers were hit.  I will never forget the numb feeling of emotion I had as I watched the towers crumble to the ground.  I will never forget all who were affected and lost.  I will never forget.
