Kangaroo Care

New to the hospital and delivery process at our hospital is Kangaroo Care, where it is strongly encouraged for mommy and newborn baby to have skin to skin contact immediately following the birth of your child.  This has obvious benefits when it comes to establishing the mother-baby bond, breastfeeding, and all that good stuff.  But the one thing I didn't know was it also helps to regulate baby's temperature.  When baby's are born, their body temperature is much below normal, and this time against mommy's chest is important to help raise that temperature in a natural, loving way--so much better than chilling under heat lamps.

Regardless this time was super special for me and Aubrey.  And while I know Drew's heart fell a little when he wasn't the first one to hold his baby girl, like he was with Bella, this hour of loving with Aubrey was just what I needed to help bring me back to reality following the whirl wind labor and delivery I had just experienced.  This was the moment I had been aching for, for SO LONG.  And we were in heaven!

They did this with me and Costner--same thing for one hour--and I loved it! He instantly calmed down the moment they put him on me. IT was literally holding a fresh piece of heaven!
