The cool thing about this aquarium was it was a rescue facility. Therefore a lot of the things we saw had been rescued from the shores of Florida itself. And those things that had not been rescued, were there to teach the public awareness of how to appropriately share the ocean with its inhabitants.
There was lots to see but I just added in a few of the highlights. Like these cool glowing jelly fish…no that is not the technical name.
There was lots of hands on. Bella got to touch sea stars, sting rays, and here she is touching a crab.
We also got to see a dolphin, who had a sweet story, so I just have to share. Moonshine is a spotted dolphin, I can relate since I have my own spots aka freckles, who had been beached with a sunburn at a nearby shore in Florida. Well she was brought to Mote to recover, and when she did it was discovered that she had a severe liver condition--likely the reason she had been beached in the first place. This condition requires her to take daily medicine, therefore she will be spending the rest of her days in massive Mote Aquarium pool.
While the chances are low that they will find a permanent companion for her,
I am hoping that they do.
