My mom and dad's dog, Ebony, who was once my dog too,had to be put to sleep recently, and I wanted to make sure I was careful when talking to Bella about this, because it is her first dealing with death, and she loved Ebony dearly, as she does most dogs, plus she knew Ebony had been sick and was much older, for some time.
Well after sharing with her that Ebony was in Heaven…and God was taking care of her now, she had LOTS of questions--but the best one of all came up a few days after I had first told her about Ebony's death when she added Ebony to her prayer list for the night. When she finished praying she asked--
"How did Ebony get to Heaven mommy?
Did she jump on a trampoline?"
I couldn't help but laugh a little at the visual image of Ebony on a trampoline, and the joy I know it brought Bella just thinking that is how we all get to Heaven.
