I have made a mental bucket list of sorts for this summer, determined to enjoy every minute of the time I have with the girls, and also to not let having a little one limit what we do as a family.
Strawberry picking was my first big adventure. Adventure mainly because it involved a 40 minute drive--which meant a lot of perfect timing with feedings, sheltering my Aubrey from the sun, and pushing Bella to try something new that was unlike anything she had ever done before. To ensure we had a good time we invited our friends Jessie and Chance along.
Bella was guaranteed to love the first part--The Petting Zoo.
This child LOVES animals and this little petting zoo was the perfect start to our day. She loved petting all the animals, and didn't even notice that mommy forgot quarters for the feed machines. There was an assortment there too, she loved the baby goats, and the llama, mainly because one of her favorite books these days is anything from the Llama, Llama series.
The strawberry field was big and beautiful and Bella looked like a doll plucking strawberries in the field, with her bucket in hand.
Her friend Chance was a big fan of the strawberry picking himself. He squealed with joy every time he pulled a strawberry from its vine. Love him!
And those long rows of strawberries were great for picking, but for Bella it meant running up and down the aisles too once she had had enough of the picking. She definitely got her exercise for the day.
This girl did better than I could have imagined, considering just how girly she is. But to keep her going for a little longer I had her "make sure" she picked at least 10 strawberries when she started to show signs that she was ready to move on. It was good counting practice, and it kept her focused on the task at hand long enough for us to get enough strawberries to show for.
In the end, we got 2+ pounds of strawberries (for only $5!), and to my surprise Bella even popped a few in her mouth right there at the patch after I pulled off the leaves. I know this all sounds crazy, but Bella is not a big fan of new foods--though she loves strawberries--or foods that look different than they typically do. Pretty particular she is, one thing I truly love about her.
As for Aubrey, she did great too! She hung out in the sling for the petting zoo and strawberry picking, sleeping for most of the time. She woke up and was ready to eat just in time for us to eat lunch too.
So thankful our first big summer activity went well, and so thankful we had such great company! In the end we used our strawberries to make some yummy muffins, and froze a few for popsicles some time soon.
Looking forward to more BIG adventures to come.
