The Truth, and Nothing but the Truth

One thing I really appreciate as a teacher, is the many crazy comments I get from my students. Thursday of last week, I let a few of my students listen to the heartbeat of our baby, thanks to my recorder, and the joy they expressed in this moment will forever be remembered in my mind. So now that my students know I am pregnant, their honesty about my pregnancy is priceless! Here is the comment I got today from one of my more "outspoken" students...

"You know, I especially appreciate when people have innie belly buttons. Then you don't have to worry about your belly button popping out and showing through your clothes."--Following this comment, he began to talk in detail about how the umbilical cord is detached--recommending I "close my eyes when they cut that thing, because there is going to be A LOT of blood!"

Who would have considered such a thing would be so offensive to my students. Glad to see my belly button is cooperating, for now. Unfortunately, I think when I return to school in the fall, this student will be rather disappointed when my belly button is in full bloom.
