Being a teacher and being pregnant definitely makes for an interesting experience because kids are always gauranteed to say what's on their mind. I was talking with two little girls when one asked, "Is that a boy in there?" I, of course, corrected her and said it was a little girl, named Isabella. The second student in the room looked a bit confused, and as we talked more she finally asked while pointing at my belly, "Do you keep that on when you go to bed?" I honestly had to think for a minute before I realized, she thought my belly, our baby, was detachable in some way. I immediately laughed out loud and explained to the little girl that the baby was inside of me, it wasn't something I could take on and off, and she would come out when she was ready. She began to ask lots of questions that could have easily resulted in a "birds and the bees" conversation, but instead I found the comparison to a chicken, egg and baby chick much more appropriate. The little girl seemed content, and moved on with her phonics activity. Phew! I really lucked out with that one.
